3D Modeling: ZBrush and Transfer Maps

Week 3 of Model Creation introduced digital sculpting through ZBrush, importing models from Maya to be sculpted on and then exported back into Maya as high resolution (a lot of subdivided geometry) and low resolution object files. The texture map of the high res object would be baked and transferred onto the low res item to give it the illusion of the surface detail that was sculpted in ZBrush.

Week 4's objects applied the same new concepts for 3 new items to create the final scene with all of the objects from the duration of the class.

My Next Step in 3D Modeling

This month I took Modeling Creation Class, which is a step up from 3D Foundations. It was more of a challenge with some new terms and more complicated objects to create, but I didn't struggle as much as I did to grasp the concepts as I did in 3DF since I already had prior modeling knowledge under my belt at this point.

Week 1 focussed on primary, secondary form, and silhouette (not too different from 3DF there) and also introduced defining edge quality through "holding edges" to keep a form's shape after the 3 key is pressed within Maya to smooth the shape.

Week 2 was much of the same, but with smaller and more detailed items and with UVs laid out.
